Profile optimization on LinkedIn is what SEO is to Google.

The benefits include:

  • Attract prospects
  • Helps grow your reach
  • Increase profile searches
  • Show your profile in suggestions

If you are on LinkedIn for business, don’t ignore optimizing your profile

Here is the step-by-step process on how to optimize your LinkedIn profile.

Click on ‘Me’ -> ‘View Profile’

Start editing:

1. A Professional Headline

The headline appears on the top when someone sees your profile. It is right below your name in the view profile section.

A headline subtly tells what you do and what you have to offer.

Here is mine for now: Helping Grow Tech Startups with Content, Stories, and Data

My headline reveals what I do.

Now it’s your turn.

Remember to include keywords everywhere possible. Adding the exact keywords helps you get noticed in the search results.

For example: If you are into education and skill building, you can put #education #books #skills.

Note: Use only popular and relevant terms.

Don’t include keywords like #eduskill #bookworm #skilldev. These are not widely searched terms and will not help discover you.

Action Step: Think for a while and come up with an impressive headline.

Your badass one-line description will not come as soon as you start thinking. I suggest making 5–6 revisions and then updating your profile with the one you like the most.

P.S. No need to add (#) in your headline.
