Reading Can Play a Crucial Part in Your Growth

Here’s how I am getting perpetual benefits reading books

Most people do not read because they are unaware of the benefits or haven’t experienced the pleasure.

Teachers, parents, and peers play a vital role in inducing habits. It is my privilege that I am born to a reader dad who inspired me to pick up reading.

I started reading when I was 15 years old. Now I am 27, and unable to break the habit of reading.

Humans do what they do due to three motivators:

  1. Feeling
  2. Necessity
  3. Habit

When I took that first book, I felt an adrenaline rush reading the initial few page. Then I became unstoppable. I would read 100 pages a day and still not feel exhausted. My time with history books ended when school became a priority.

Years later, I had confusion with my career and life. Quarter Life Crisis hit me hard. I again found the necessity to read books.

I have emerged out of that state. As a writer, reading is now an integral part of my routine. And I know I have a long way to go.

But I am amazed by the people who do not read.

It is not that not reading will make a person inhumane or incapable. But studies suggests that developing a reading habit earlier builds cognitive abilities. Reading affect intellectual development.

In line with intellectual development comes growth. I came across non-fiction when I was doing my bachelor’s.

Never did I know that I would become a non-fiction writer. But when I started reading how-to books, I could not resist imagining about living a dream life.

Ever read non fiction? Most of them starts with stories. Stories are great way to transfer generational knowledge. Stories also introduce vocabulary.

My time with George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four (1984) was pure adventure. Furthering that was Apple’s iconic Ad aired during the Super Bowl football game.

Literary fiction takes inspiration from fantasies of the real world. Characters portrayed in fiction books are real world personas. They…
